Florence board approves routine procurements, training and multi‑year volunteer fire agreement

At its Oct. 21 meeting, the Florence board approved several low‑bid procurements (asphalt repair, spray foam insulation, electrical work), training attendances, membership dues, final fiscal‑year budget amendments and a four‑year agreement with the Florence Volunteer Fire Department; all motions passed unanimously.
The Florence mayor and board approved a slate of routine administrative and procurement items at their Oct. 21 meeting, including low‑bid awards for street and facilities work, training authorizations, membership dues and final fiscal‑year paperwork.
On Street Director David Myers' recommendations the board accepted AJ Construction's low quote of $7,700 for a 6‑inch asphalt base repair at Church and Main Street; Precision Spray Foam of Mississippi's low quote of $6,825 to insulate the 50×40 public works shop; and Apex Electric LLC's low quote of $7,129.32 to install a spider box electrical system on Earl Clark Street. Each award was described in the minutes as the lowest and best of the quotes received and each motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved payment of $175 to the Mississippi Building Officials' Association for annual membership dues and approved the list of business privilege licenses issued during the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2025. City Clerk Linda Wigley presented and the board approved Budget Amendment #3 (final) for FYE 09/30/2025; the minutes note a copy of the amendment is attached to the public record.
Training approvals included sending Chief Brad Burns to the Winter Educational Conference in Oxford, Miss., Dec. 9–12, 2025 (registration $375) and authorizing Mark Hester, Brad Burns, David Myers and Tyler Hayes to attend Sigma Chemical Spill Response training in Pearl, Miss., Nov. 6, 2025 (registration $135 each). The board authorized payment of registration fees and allowable related travel costs as permitted by state law.
Separately, on City Attorney Bobby Lingold's recommendation the board authorized Mayor Trey Gunn to sign an agreement between the City of Florence and the Florence Volunteer Fire Department covering Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2029. The minutes record the motion passing unanimously. All routine approvals were recorded as unanimous votes of those present.
