Florence board ratifies police repair, approves referee fees and routine claims

At its Sept. 2 meeting the Florence Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a set of routine operational matters, including a police-vehicle repair, referee-fee payments and administrative approvals.
Acting on a recommendation from Chief Burns, the board ratified Coleman Taylor Transmission estimate #511678 to repair the transmission on a police Ford Explorer (VIN 1FM5K8AR3BGA79478) for $5,665.44; the minutes note this was the lowest of two quotes (A-1 Gear & Auto quoted $5,952.80). The motion was made by Alderman John Banks and seconded by Alderman Brent Sistrunk and carried unanimously.
Park Director Mark Hester recommended payments to the Rankin County Football League for 2025: $3,142.00 for tackle referee fees and $1,058.75 for flag-football referee fees. Both payments were approved by unanimous motions.
The board also approved the claims docket and the Aug. 19, 2025 minutes by unanimous votes. In other new-business motions, the board authorized Mayor Trey Gunn to work with Hometown Magazine to develop a promotional brochure for the city and rescinded a previously scheduled public hearing for a Mid-South Meter & Regulator variance request set for Sept. 16, 2025.
Alderman Mason Herrin briefly left the meeting and later returned; the minutes state he did not participate or deliberate while absent.
