Florence's city engineers and board members approved multiple construction pay requests and a contract change order tied to the Eagle Post Road and Hwy. 49 sanitary sewer projects during the Oct. 7 meeting.
City Engineer Tim Parker recommended Pay Request No. 2 to A.J. Construction for $60,116.03 for the Eagle Post Road overlay LPA project. Alderman Grantham moved the approval, Alderman Herrin seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Parker also recommended approval of Pay Request No. 1 to Thornton Construction Company, Inc. for $131,230.53 related to MCWI #255-2-CW (Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road sanitary sewer additions — College Street pump station force main replacement). The board approved that pay request after a motion by Alderman Grantham and a second by Alderman Sistrunk.
The board further approved Thornton Construction Company, Inc. Contract Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $60,298.67 for the Phase 3 sanitary sewer additions project. That change order was approved on a motion from Alderman Sistrunk and a second from Alderman Martin.
Notable procedure: Alderman Mason Herrin briefly left the meeting after the A.J. Construction pay request; the record notes he did not participate in deliberations or votes taken while absent and was later invited back to resume participation.
What’s next: The approved pay requests and change order authorize payment to contractors per the project contracts; the meeting record does not disclose additional funding sources or revised project completion dates.
