Florence board grants variance for Southern Oaks lot and adopts technical zoning corrections

The Florence Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Nov. 4 granted a dimensional variance for Lot 140 in the Southern Oaks, Part 2 subdivision and adopted an ordinance to make technical corrections to the city’s zoning ordinances.

Community Development Director Joel Sims presented written facts and findings during two public hearings; no members of the public spoke for or against either the variance request or the proposed ordinance changes. After receiving the record, Alderman Mason Herrin moved to grant the requested variance; Alderman Brent Sistrunk seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Shortly thereafter the board voted to adopt an ordinance, prepared with the recommendation of City Attorney Bobby Lingold, to make technical corrections to the zoning code. The roll call on the ordinance recorded Aldermen John Banks and Brian Grantham as absent and Aldermen Herrin, Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk voting aye.

The board incorporated Joel Sims’ written findings and conclusions into the official minutes and record of the public hearings. The action allows the property owner of Lot 140 to proceed under the terms described in the facts and findings attached to the public hearing record.

By adopting the technical corrections, the board approved administrative updates to the city’s zoning ordinance language as recommended by the zoning administrator; the meeting record does not list substantive substantive changes to use classifications or rezoning beyond the described technical edits.

The board returned to other business after the vote. The ordinance adoption and variance grant were carried at the Nov. 4 meeting; the written facts and findings are part of the meeting record.
