LaPrele Dam reconstruction: county, engineers coordinate permits, access and traffic control

Pete Rausch of RESPEC Engineering and Cory Foreman of HDR Engineering briefed the Converse County Board of Commissioners on the ongoing LaPrele Dam reconstruction and related river/creek work. They said they continue to coordinate with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on LaPrele Creek impacts, necessary aquatic enhancements and final permitting steps as the project progresses.
The engineers described a planned blasting schedule and discussed public-access limitations during construction. The commissioners requested that CR13/Natural Bridge Road be kept clear of mud to ensure safe motorcycle travel and asked staff to install signage restricting speed. Traffic-control measures under discussion include a manned gate shack and traffic lights to manage construction traffic.
No formal action was taken; commissioners indicated they will continue to work with the LaPrele Irrigation District on creek enhancement planning with a goal of installing features in October if the Natural Bridge Park closure and permitting align with project timelines.
