Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Commission approves routine minutes, reschedules work session and discusses budget pressures

At its July 2 regular meeting and the July 24 work session recorded in the packet, the Unified Government of Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Commission approved routine meeting minutes, rescheduled a work session to hold a public hearing, and discussed early budget concerns.

Commissioner Damon Hoyte moved and Vice-Chairman Timothy Biddle seconded approval of the June 4 regular meeting minutes and related session minutes; the board voted unanimously. Commissioners also moved to reschedule the July work session to 6 p.m. to accommodate a conditional-use public hearing for an applicant (later held July 24), and the rescheduling motion carried unanimously.

Chairman Charles Coffey cautioned departments about early fiscal-year overspending and urged submission of outstanding invoices before the new budget to avoid carrying costs into the next year. County Manager Thomas Weaver delivered departmental updates (recreation registration and back-to-school assistance, community-development concerns about animal-euthanasia costs, water-department leak repair on Highway 280, and public-works road maintenance). Work-session topics slated for the Aug. 6 meeting included budget amendments, reappointments to the Industrial Development Authority (Walter Miller and Lou Beck), and a request from the local 4-H program for additional funding.

The commission met in executive session (July 2) to discuss matters exempted by Georgia law; the chair certified that the closed meeting addressed personnel, contracts and tire-cost issues and that no votes were taken while in executive session. The regular meeting reconvened and adjourned at 10:31 a.m. on July 2.
