Resident urges traffic light at Ridge and Akins after recent crashes

Michael Maminskas, a Ridge Road resident, urged the North Royalton City Council at its Sept. 16 meeting to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Ridge and Akins Roads, saying the corner is hazardous and that recent crashes have continued. Maminskas told council he has observed reckless speeds and gave the administration ODOT guidance suggesting a traffic signal may be allowable when funds and cause exist.
He said an engineer previously cited 30 accidents and 17 injuries at the intersection and reported two additional collisions in the past two weeks, including one that resulted in ambulance transport. Maminskas estimated the cost of a traffic signal at around $65,000 and said he will continue to press the issue at council meetings until action is taken.
Council did not take formal action on the request at the meeting. Clerk Helen Dunlap had announced Maminskas would speak during communications and public comment. No city engineer or staff recommendation for immediate signal installation was recorded in the meeting minutes.
