Police Chief Keith Tarase told the committee the city owns three speed-trailer units (one trailer-mounted and two pole-mounted units) and that the devices record speed and time-of-day data which police use to target enforcement. John Nickell reported seeing fewer deer in his ward after culling efforts; Chief Tarase noted deer remain concentrated near Bennett Rd.
Fire Chief Robert Chegan said run volumes are up roughly 8% over last year, with July at 391 runs and August at 349. Mutual aid was received seven times and provided 15 times during the reporting period. He said the department’s new Medic 1 is now in service and that Medic 2 (ordered January 2024) is expected in June 2026. New radios recently delivered will be inventoried and placed in service in the next 4–6 weeks. Chegan also reported Safety Town work has been delayed by a Lowe’s management change that slowed donation and pricing coordination; concrete work has been completed and sponsor emblems are ready for installation once sponsors finalize participation.
Chief Tarase said the police department has conditional offers out to two candidates and will need to replace one retiree. Committee members asked for clarified counts and future staffing projections for budget planning; staff agreed to provide additional details in later updates.
The committee also discussed hunting season: Chief Tarase said deer hunting runs Sept. 27 through Feb. 1 this season and that 106 hunting permits were issued.
