He said a gas-powered spec would be substantially less expensive than a diesel and recommended the gas option to save roughly $112,000 in lifecycle costs compared to diesel on one estimate.
Board members cited maneuverability and safety on narrow island roads as key reasons to prefer a smaller truck. Aaron said the town could expect trade-in offers between about $40,000 and $50,000 but could potentially sell the older unit privately for more.
A motion to expend up to $140,000 for the purchase and to sell the 2007 truck was made and, after brief discussion, carried by voice vote with Chair calling for "all those in favor." No roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
The board said the replacement truck purchase would come from the highway truck reserve and that proceeds from a sale would be returned to that reserve.
