North Royalton says Abbey and Akins paving nearly complete after sewer work coordination

City Engineer Matthew Glass told the Streets Committee on Sept. 2 that the 2025 road maintenance work on Abbey and Akins has progressed because paving was coordinated with the Abbey sewer project, allowing the paving subcontractor to mill, perform full-depth repairs,lay an intermediate course, and then have the sewer contractor complete driveway repairs and manhole adjustments once — avoiding rework.
"It worked out well for them to have the projects run at the same time. A benefit to everyone," Glass said, and added he is hopeful the paving portion of Abbey Road will be complete by the end of next week. He said the sewer contract still includes restoration work to finalize connections and adjustments to grade.
Service Director Nick Cinquepalmi reported the Service Department is also advancing a county-partnered crack-sealing grant and that progress is going well. Chair Joanne Krejci and Councilmember John Nickell noted positive resident feedback on recent paving (Yorkview) and asked staff to confirm whether remaining restoration work will impede traffic; Glass said, for the most part, it will not.
The committee did not take formal votes on project scope or funding during the meeting; members asked staff to continue coordination and to report completion status at the next Streets Committee meeting.
