Senior Center reports strong early participation; committee refers fee‑code cleanup to council

Chair John Nickell and Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz updated the committee Sept. 16 on the Senior Center, which opened about a month ago. Mayor Antoskiewicz said the center has attracted 41 new visitors and launched a watercolor class that drew more than 40 signups, and staff continue to promote programming.
The committee voted to remove the Senior Center topic from future Building & Building Codes agendas following the update. Separately, City Planner Ian Russell described Ordinance 25-141, which reconciles fee language in Codified Ordinance Section 214.08 with recent changes to street‑opening and right‑of‑way permit fees. The change is a cleanup to avoid duplication in the code; the committee voted unanimously to move the ordinance to council for approval.
The minutes for the Sept. 16 meeting were approved at the start of the session. The meeting record contains an internal inconsistency in the adjournment motion that references July 15, 2025; the meeting header and other timestamps indicate the session occurred Sept. 16, 2025.
