At its Jan. 13 meeting the Washington City Council approved a set of administrative items: a budget amendment to transfer funds to the Medical District Drainage Project, adoption of two small grant ordinances, and an airport staffing reclassification.
Council approved a budget ordinance amendment and grant-project amendment to provide the remaining city funds needed for the Medical District Drainage Project, which will begin in the Brown and 15th Street area. The minutes say the city expects a Golden Leaf grant will later reimburse amounts the city fronts.
The council also adopted a NCDOT ACE Academy grant ordinance for $5,000 to support aviation training at the Washington-Warren Airport and a separate Smart Communities Grant project ordinance for $5,000. Paula Stephenson, TDA director, reported the TDA has $20,000 in the budget for grants and has allocated $5,000 for the Green Book Project at the Turnage Theater.
Separately, the Airport division requested reclassification of the Airport Facility Attendant (grade 6) to Airport Operations Technician (grade 12) and asked that two existing part-time positions receive pay increases to $16.00 per hour; Council authorized the City Manager to approve the new job description and reclassification. The minutes note the positions remain part time (less than 20 hours per week) and are not eligible for benefits.
Votes on these items were recorded in the minutes as approvals by motion.
