Hobart RDC authorizes staff to negotiate year-to-year farming lease for Greenwood Terrace

The Redevelopment Commission authorized staff May 18 to negotiate a year-to-year farming lease with Rodney Johnson Jr. for the Greenwood Terrace parcel, allowing him to continue farming the site until future development occurs.
Commissioners heard that Mr. Johnson previously operated on a verbal, year-to-year farming agreement with the property’s prior owners and had agreed to a verbal termination when the property was sold. Staff recommended a conditional annual lease to preserve the option for near-term farming while keeping the land available for future redevelopment. Mark Kara moved to authorize staff to work with Mr. Johnson on an annual farming lease; Kelly Clemens seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
The commission also formally amended the agenda to add consideration of the Greenwood Terrace farming arrangement as new business before voting. Any lease will be reviewed annually and kept compatible with the parcel’s planned development timeline.
