Northfield council hears presentation on Akron-Summit County clean-energy financing program

Council members heard a presentation Jan. 11 on a Clean Energy Special Improvement District (SID) that officials said could provide financing to local commercial and institutional property owners for energy-efficiency upgrades. Chris Burnham of the Summit County Development Finance Authority and Jason Dodson of Roetzel & Andress described the SID and how it would operate.
Burnham and Dodson explained the program would make below-market-rate financing available to eligible property owners and that there would be no direct cost to the Village to join. They said the Village would need to complete a small qualifying project in the $500 to $3,000 range to allow local businesses to apply for financing through the district.
Mayor Jennifer Domzalski and councilmembers asked procedural questions about implementation timelines and the administrative steps required for the Village to participate. No formal action was taken; presenters offered to provide follow-up materials and the council will consider the matter during future budget and planning discussions.
