Superintendent announces citizen advisory committee; board approves English 10 framework and tables ELA resource purchase

Dr. Maggie Vitale used her superintendent’s report to recognize East Stroudsburg North’s Unified Track and Field athletes and to announce the launch of a citizen advisory committee to engage taxpayers and community members on district priorities and budget communication. Applications will close in mid‑July and the board intends to appoint community representatives at the July board meeting.
On curriculum, the Educational Programs & Resources committee recommended approval of the English 10 curricular framework; the board approved that framework at the meeting. The committee also presented a set of curricular resources for grades 11–12 totaling $68,105.40 but the board tabled that purchase until members can review the curricula at the July meeting, per the committee’s recommendation.
“Keep in mind the EPR committee does not meet in July,” Anne Petrillo said during the committee report and urged members to review materials and email questions to district staff. Petrillo also noted a new induction plan for mentor and new teachers and flagged potential future discussion of high‑school bell schedules.
The board approved a slate of other routine items including athletic overnight‑travel authorization (delegating approval to the director of athletics and activities with superintendent sign‑off), intramural club implementations, revised code of conduct, and multiple personnel and contract items.
What’s next: Applications for the citizen advisory committee will be accepted through mid‑July; curricular resources for 11–12 ELA will be returned to the July agenda after curricular review.
