Hobart Park Board backs skate-park relocation plan, but final approval tied to May 20 funding vote

HOBART CITY — The Hobart Park Board on May 11 endorsed a plan to relocate the city’s skate park to a new site south of the municipal pool and add a pump track, but it made final approval contingent on a May 20 vote on project funding and a forthcoming public hearing.

Park Director Mrs. Mandon told the board she wants to “take advantage of this funding opportunity to improve our skate park,” and described a Sourcewell design–build arrangement with American Ramp Company. She said the current skate park “is not the ideal location” and that the plan includes moving the facility to new property south of the pool and adding a pump track. “We are excited that American Ramp Company involves the community; they host everything and hold meetings to ask what the community wants,” she said.

After a brief discussion during which board members expressed general support for the project footprint, Mr. Schultz moved and Ms. Grabczak seconded a motion to make any contract award or final authorization contingent on the May 20 funding decision. The minutes record agreement among board members but do not include a roll-call vote for the contingency motion.

The Park Board also reviewed a separate Build–Operate–Transfer agreement for park projects that will require a public hearing before final action; the board voted to keep action contingent pending that hearing and the May 20 funding decision.

Next steps: the board will revisit the design–build agreement after the May 20 funding decision and following the scheduled public hearing; no final contract was executed at the May 11 meeting.
