Republic council approves consent agenda, closes a resident account and OKs library utility cost split with FORL

The City of Republic council met Feb. 2 and approved a series of routine and project-related items by unanimous vote.
The council approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from Jan. 20, 2026; payroll checks #4438-4440 totaling $33,624.11; accounts payable checks #66029-66043 totaling $33,633.23; and a State transmittal of $50,090.40.
Public Works Director Todd Cole reported that a water leak at S. Adams and Portland has been repaired but that additional work will be needed in spring. Following Coles report that crews could not locate an additional water meter on Naomi Hulses second parcel, Councilmember Liz Stinson moved and Councilmember Heather Brice seconded a motion to close Hulses secondary account; the motion passed unanimously.
Clerk-Treasurer Nick Olsen said library site-preparation work will start this year and that water and sewer utility expansion is required on a city parcel to serve the project. He said Friends of the Republic Library (FORL) will contribute $1,500 toward the water extension and $5,500 toward the sewer extension. Councilmember Mari Jo Olsen moved to approve the extension and cost split; Councilmember Heather Brice seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
In other business, Councilmember Mari Jo Olsen said Job Corps clean-up week is scheduled for June 1-5, 2026. She also announced that the bid packet for Phase 2 of the Patterson Park retaining wall will be released Feb. 4, 2026, with a contractor walk-through on Feb. 18. The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m. after a unanimous motion by Councilmember Liz Stinson and a second from Councilmember Loni Simone.
