Northfield council approves $9,100 to outfit new fire truck; confirms lieutenant appointment

The council voted unanimously to accept a $9,100 quote from Sensible Products of Richfield to install hooks, racks, shelves and fasteners to secure equipment on the truck. Gary Vojtush moved the measure and Renell Noack seconded; the roll-call vote was recorded as Ferko, Noack, Vojtush, Magistrelli and Lewis — all yes.
Fire Chief Jason Buss told the council the work can be completed the following week under the supplier’s 2021 price and that the department overlooked the upfitting cost when budgeting for the new apparatus. Chief Buss also reported the village’s new Nixle alert system went live this week and said about "150 to 200 people have already signed up" to receive alerts by texting “Northfield” to 888777.
In related personnel action, the council suspended the three-reading rule and adopted Resolution No. 2022-41, confirming the Mayor/Director of Public Safety’s appointment of Paul Wojtkiewicz as a full-time lieutenant with the Fire Department. The motion to adopt was made by Noack, seconded by Vojtush, and approved by the same unanimous roll-call vote.
The measures will allow the department to complete required equipment installations on the new truck and proceed with the staffing change immediately, per the emergency resolution. No additional funding source for the upfit was specified in the meeting record.
