The Planning & Zoning Commission on Jan. 13 approved a conditional zoning certificate for Sweet Magnolia's, a proposed non-fast-food sit-down café planned for a vacant 0.35-acre parcel at the Grant Street and Library Drive intersection on the Village Green.
Applicant Lisa Sherrill described the café as an inclusive, family-friendly space offering made-to-order food and beverages including pizza, ice cream, gelato and coffee. She requested hours of operation from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week to serve morning visitors, caregivers, remote workers and event attendees. Sherrill told the commission the business will offer beer, wine and spirits and said evening operations will be primarily indoor with no outdoor amplified sound.
Director Brian Frantz recommended approval subject to outstanding design comments from professional reviewers. The commission voted unanimously to approve Case 03-2026 with the condition that final plans address the outstanding technical and design comments; tentative final plan approval and any required council referrals will follow the conditional zoning process.
