East Cleveland board approves HVAC repair, student-safety software and communications contract

The East Cleveland City School District board on Sept. 8 approved a set of vendor contracts to address building maintenance, student safety and communications as part of its consent and committee reports.
Bernie Robinson, chair of the Buildings and Grounds committee, introduced a resolution to contract with William H. Gardener Company to replace a failed cooling coil that serves the Shaw High School gym and adjacent floors. Facilities staff said the unit failed in December and that, under the district's standing contract with the vendor, replacement was recommended as repair would be futile. The board moved and approved the resolution.
During the education committee report, members approved the 2025-26 transportation schedule and bus routes; the packet shows five routes, one of which serves a nonpublic school.
The board also approved a contract with Raptor Technologies LLC to provide an integrated student-safety and behavior-management system that the district will use for safety monitoring and staff training. Separately, the board renewed a consulting contract with Ellison Hill Communications to support social-media messaging, scheduling and video capture for district communications, describing the firm as supplemental to the district's small communications staff.
A contract with Susan Gasa to provide professional development focused on writing across the curriculum at identified schools was approved; presenters said preliminary data tied to last year's partnership showed improvements in writing-related measures.
The resolutions were moved, seconded and adopted by recorded vote as part of the meeting's consent/resolutions block. The board did not take up any executive-session votes in public on these items.
What happens next: Contracts will be executed per the terms presented; the district will implement the Raptor system and continue the communications and writing-support work during the school year.
