Board approves HVAC maintenance contract and Chambers roof repairs

The East Cleveland Board of Education approved two facilities contracts at its June 9 meeting: a preventative maintenance and service agreement for the district’s HVAC equipment and a contract to repair the Chambers building roof.
Bernard Robinson, chair of the Buildings and Grounds committee, introduced the HVAC maintenance resolution and asked Dr. Pedigrew to explain why the district needs the contract. “Yearly we do need a maintenance contract on all the HVAC … Without a maintenance agreement, you’re going to pay double or triple for those same services,” Dr. Pedigrew said, arguing the agreement secures discounted service and training for district staff.
The board also approved a contract with Prodigy Building Solution for work on the Chambers roof to stop current leaks and prepare the space for the board’s planned move and a possible shared-services arrangement with the city. Committee and board members noted the roof was included in prior facility plans and that the work helps stabilize the building ahead of occupancy decisions. Both resolutions were moved, seconded and approved during the meeting.
Facilities staff and the superintendent said the HVAC agreement will include routine preventive visits and that roof project timing and vendor details will be followed up by the facilities department.
