Shelburne launches Bay Road bike and pedestrian scoping study; bridge component to begin later

The Shelburne Community and Economic Development Committee on May 27 reviewed plans for a bike and pedestrian safety scoping study for Bay Road, led by the Town with coordination from the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC).
The Chair said the first scoping study aims to identify short-, medium- and long-term affordable options with the CCRPC’s assistance and that a separate bridge scoping study would likely start in September and take longer. The Committee heard the Town plans to coordinate the study with ongoing sewer and municipal water work to identify cost and implementation synergies.
Planned outreach includes multiple local neighborhood meetings with Yacht Haven Homeowners Association and the Bay Ridge development to gather community input and address localized concerns about corridor segments. The Chair and staff emphasized that the process will produce layered recommendations and that results from the bicycle/pedestrian study will inform the later bridge work.
Town staff said the first study is expected to conclude by January, with further updates to be provided at future committee meetings.
