Police Chief Gabe Barone told council that village ordinances and state laws covering fireworks exist but are difficult for officers to enforce effectively. He said two new part-time officers have helped fill staffing gaps and assisted with promotional activities.
Council member Lisa Whitmyer offered to lead a committee to explore website upgrades and the use of a content-management system (CMS) so department content can be maintained in-house. Whitmyer agreed to head the committee when asked by Mayor Kathleen Hale.
The council did not take formal action on enforcement strategy at the meeting; the CMS committee will report back with options for updating the police department web presence and ways to reduce maintenance costs.
