Berea council hears updates on conservation agreement, property sale and local commissions

BEREA, Ohio — At its Jan. 26 special meeting, Berea City Council held second readings on two ordinances and received committee updates on a cemetery expansion and the Shade Tree Commission’s proposed tree list.
The Clerk read Ordinance No. 1-2, which would authorize the Director of Public Service to enter an agreement with the Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District to provide technical assistance on soil and water conservation measures; the ordinance stands on second reading. The Clerk also read Ordinance No. 1-3, authorizing the Mayor to enter a listing agreement with a professional realtor for the marketing and sale of 280 Kempton Drive. Director of Law and Public Safety Barb Jones said the City has taken possession of the property and that "Mr. Madzy will have an update regarding the state of the interior prior to third reading." Both items remain under council consideration.
On committee reports, Jim Maxwell said the Woodvale Union Cemetery expansion is on hold until weather permits construction of a new access road. Erika Coble said Shade Tree Commission members introduced a recommended tree list that emphasizes native species; the list will be posted on the City’s website. The Clerk noted that correspondence dated Jan. 1–22, 2026 is available in the Clerk’s office.
No votes on the second-reading items were recorded at the meeting. Council adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
