Berea Council approves resolution supporting 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. anniversary celebration

The Berea City Council on Jan. 5 unanimously approved Resolution No. 1-1 supporting the 2026 celebration of the anniversary of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Councilmember Lisa Weaver moved the resolution and Rick Skoczen seconded; the recorded vote was ayes: Coble, Kurtz, McManis, Redding, Skoczen and Weaver, and nays: none.
The approval came as part of a short regular meeting that also included routine business. Council approved the Dec. 8, 2025 work‑session minutes (moved by Chris McManis; seconded by Rick Skoczen) and the Dec. 15, 2025 regular‑meeting minutes (moved by Lisa Weaver; seconded by Rick Skoczen), both carried by unanimous voice vote.
Later in the meeting the council voted to cancel the Jan. 12, 2026 work session (motion by Rick Skoczen; second by Chris McManis) and to cancel the Jan. 20, 2026 regular meeting because it conflicted with the City’s Volunteer Banquet and to schedule a special meeting to cover the Jan. 20 agenda (motion by Rick Skoczen; second by Chris McManis). Both motions carried by unanimous vote.
There were no substantive policy votes taken on ordinances at this meeting; several ordinances were on first or second reading and will return for further consideration.
