Upper Hanover adds 59.8 acres (Yerger Farm) to Agricultural Security Area

Solicitor Joe Bresnan opened the hearing, entered exhibits into the record and solicited public comment; none was offered. Owners James L. Yerger, Robert Yerger Jr., and Christopher Yerger Sr. attended the hearing. Tim Woodward moved to approve the ASA inclusion and adopt Resolution No. 2023‑38; the motion was seconded by Dottie Diehl and passed 5‑0.
After the vote, Supervisor Stefan Laessig asked the Yerger family to address an adjacent junk yard to prevent expansion and to clean up existing materials.
Why it matters: Inclusion in the Agricultural Security Area makes the enrolled farmland eligible for protections and is part of a farmland preservation tool used by the township and county.
What’s next: The resolution is adopted; any cleanup or enforcement around the junk yard would be a separate matter for the property owners and township code enforcement.
