Rocky River selects BerryDunn to create recreation strategic plan, council hears scope and references

At the first reading of Ordinance No. 22-26 on April 13, Ms. Morris read a memo from Recreation Director Holub stating that BerryDunn was selected through a competitive process to prepare a Recreation Strategic Plan for Rocky River for up to $249,597.
The selection followed interviews of four firms (BerryDunn, MSA, Designing Local and OHM) and an evaluation by a team that included Recreation staff and city directors. The scope presented includes community and stakeholder engagement, facility and operational assessments, financial analysis and cost-recovery strategies, and a prioritized implementation roadmap.
Councilmembers asked about references and experience in comparable communities; Mayor Bobst and Director Snyder said references were available and highlighted BerryDunn principals’ prior experience as former recreation directors and an in-person observation period to assess facility operations. No vote was taken on the ordinance at this meeting; it was introduced for first reading.
If approved in subsequent readings and after contracting, the strategic plan will guide programming, facility investments and operational changes at the Recreation Center.
