Woolwich committee adopts Comcast municipal consent ordinance; one abstention

The Woolwich Township Committee adopted Ordinance 2025-09 on May 5 authorizing municipal consent for Comcast of South Jersey, LLC to construct, connect, operate and maintain a cable television and communications system within the township. The measure was read by Mayor Matthias and adopted by roll call (Committeeman Frederick abstained; Jacqueline Williams, Deputy Mayor Nocentino and Mayor Matthias voted yes).
During the hearing, Deputy Mayor Nocentino asked whether Comcast would provide services beyond basic television. Mayor Matthias said he would contact Comcast to clarify that point while handling another matter. The mayor also emphasized that the ordinance does not grant Comcast a monopoly and that the Board of Public Utilities requires municipal consent for such agreements.
The ordinance was adopted as read; the minutes record the roll call and the committee moved on to the next agenda item.
