Selectmen agree town should take ownership of floats and gangway at ferry terminal

The Vinalhaven Board of Selectmen reviewed an attorney’s response regarding ownership of submerged lands at the town wharf and agreed the town should accept ownership of the floats and the gangway, but not pursue licensing of the original terminal infrastructure. The board cited a recommendation from Resilient Communities in reaching that position.
Town Manager Marjorie Stratton said the board would not move forward with licensing the existing infrastructure. Members discussed whether installing additional floats at the Fish Plant wharf could be timed with the downtown project construction and noted that further design and permitting details remain to be resolved.
The decision leaves the town responsible for maintenance and any future work on the floats and gangway. Selectmen asked staff to coordinate potential float installation with the downtown project schedule and upcoming site visits.
