The Pittsfield Town Council voted Dec. 3 to schedule a public hearing on Dec. 17, 2024 for Ordinance 24-16, a zoning amendment proposed to establish regulations for utility-scale solar energy facilities.
Councilor Jacob said the planning board drafted the ordinance, assisted by KB Cog, and that the vote was simply to place the proposal on the council's public-hearing calendar. The ordinance follows a planning-board process and an existing moratorium on large solar projects.
A councilor asked that planning-board public hearings be more widely publicized; staff agreed to consider announcing them at council meetings to increase notice. No substantive public comment on the ordinance was recorded at the Dec. 3 meeting.
