The Chebeague Island Selectboard on July 1 authorized the Town Administrator to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Island Institute to host an Island Fellow who will begin in September and serve a two-year term, and it approved multiple committee swaps and appointments.
Selectboard member Eliza Jane Adams moved to authorize signing the MOU with the Island Institute; David Hill seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The minutes indicate the Island Fellow position will start in September and continue for two years, but they do not include the fellow's name or the fellowship's specific duties.
During Other Business the board approved a committee swap: Eliza Jane Adams was appointed to the CTC Committee and Ehrhardt Groothoff was appointed to the Stone Wharf Sub-Committee; both motions passed unanimously. Chair or presiding officer comments included a note from Selectboard member Carol White that the Biomass Management Project will be discussed at the Transfer Station meeting on July 16, 2025.
The board entered executive session under 1 M.R.S.A. (6)(A) for personnel and committee appointments. After exiting at 8:25 PM, the board made several appointments by unanimous vote: Tad Runge and Mary Holt to the Board of Adjustment & Appeals (three-year terms); Alex Todd and Justin Doughty to the Coastal Waters Commission (three-year terms); David Brunner to the Facilities Committee for a three-year term with Selectboard member Richard Hackel designated as a nonvoting member; and Aaron Julien and Kyle Koerber to the Planning Board for three-year terms. The meeting adjourned at 8:27 PM.
The minutes record the appointments and the MOU authorization but provide no additional background on applicants or selection criteria. The executive-session citation in the minutes is 1 M.R.S.A. (6)(A), the Maine statute authorizing personnel-related executive sessions.
