Summary
With the transfer station's skid steer out of service and a $16,000 repair estimate, the Select Board authorized renting a John Deere 317G from MD Rentals at a cap of $2,800 per month while exploring options to buy replacement equipment at a future special town meeting.

Acton’s Select Board on June 26 approved renting a John Deere 317G skid steer for the transfer station at a maximum cost of $2,800 per month after hearing that the facility’s existing skid steer would require an estimated $16,000 to repair.
Transfer Station representative Robin Ham reported the machine was disassembled for inspection and that the leak was found; the board decided not to proceed with further repairs and instead to rent interim equipment. Ham presented three rental quotes: Southern Maine Tool & Equipment Rental Bobcat ($320/day, $1,280/week, $3,000/month plus $200 pickup/delivery); Chandler’s 325G track loader ($380/day, $1,225/week, monthly estimate ~$4,900 plus $75 pickup/delivery); and MD Rental John Deere 317G ($300/day, $1,200/week, $2,800/month). Ham recommended MD Rental.
Daniel Norwood moved to rent the John Deere 317G from MD Rentals not to exceed $2,800 per month; Edward Walsh seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The board discussed rental duration and capacity, and the Town Administrator said she would explore a one-month prepay option. The board agreed to consider a purchase of replacement equipment in the near future, which would require a special town meeting to authorize funds.
