The Pittsfield Town Council voted on Nov. 6 to accept Town Manager Jacob R. Brand’s resignation, effective Dec. 31, 2024, and to establish a five‑member search committee to identify his successor.
Council acted on Resolution 24102 accepting Brand’s resignation after a motion and second. The chair said, “I will just say that… certainly a little bit disappointed that we’re losing Jacob just because he's been a great asset to us in the town,” and the resolution passed on a voice vote.
The council then approved Resolution 24103 to form a search committee composed of three councilors and two residents. Council members nominated Mike Lynch and Michelle Hodgins for the two resident slots; councilors who expressed interest included Jason, Natalia, Lindsay, Heather and Howard. At the meeting the council confirmed committee membership and directed staff to provide follow‑up details on committee responsibilities and timeline for the search.
Resident input was solicited at the meeting: during public comment Richard Davis asked whether the town would use a search firm or hire an interim manager; staff replied those options are under consideration and further details would be released when appropriate. The council signaled it will discuss search‑firm and interim‑manager options in executive session later in the meeting.
Next steps: staff were asked to circulate a more detailed timeline and job‑search process for council review and to present committee charge and expected milestones back to the council.
