Police Chief Ken McCoy told the Village of South Bloomfield Council on June 17 that the county Emergency Management Agency (EMA) handles the maintenance schedule for the village’s two emergency warning sirens and will bill the village for those services.
When resident Don Mottie asked who determines when the sirens are activated, Chief McCoy explained that the National Weather Service office in Wilmington issues severe‑weather notifications that prompt the alerts. Council approved the first reading of Resolution 2024-13 to formalize maintenance arrangements.
Chief McCoy also briefed council on a separate department matter: a police car involved in last month’s accident will be declared a total loss by the insurer, which may influence short‑term equipment and budget planning.
Council did not finalize Resolution 2024-13 at this meeting beyond the first reading; follow‑up on billing and maintenance scheduling will proceed with county EMA.
