Otisfield Conservation Committee schedules vernal-pool trip, roadside cleanup and committee recruitment plans

At its March 17 meeting the Otisfield Conservation Committee discussed spring and summer programming and volunteer events, including a vernal-pool field trip for schoolchildren, adjusted trail-cleanup timing, a roadside cleanup, and committee membership outreach.
Committee member Maureen Howard said she will meet with Otisfield Community School STEM teacher Lyndsay Dennison this week to plan a vernal-pool visit for 5th- and 6th-grade students. The committee identified late April or early May as the recommended timing and discussed May 7 as a possible date that Committee member Lee Dassler could organize with Es Sweeney at WFLT.
The committee decided not to run trail cleanup at Henninger Park and Two Ponds on the prior target date because a town beach cleanup is scheduled the week before (May 23). Members agreed to consider a late-summer or fall alternative and to coordinate timing with Carly, the recreation director.
The committee set its roadside cleanup for Saturday, May 2, 2026, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a rain date of May 9; members said they will focus on Route 121 and Route 117 and will sweep the hall after the event. Committee member Peter Tilkemeier will draft the committee report for the town annual meeting, and the group discussed recruiting new members, specifically someone under age 18, as future business.
Next scheduled committee meeting is Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. The committee did not record any formal votes on these program items at the March 17 meeting.
