Town staff report unauthorized bike ramps and erosion at Cochituate Aqueduct; DPW to restore site

Executive Director Meghan Jop informed the Select Board of a significant encroachment on Town land at the Cochituate Aqueduct (Crosstown Trail), presenting photographs that staff said show unauthorized bike ramps, soil displacement and tree-structure damage.
Jop described the activity as destruction of Town property that violates encroachment policies and dumping bylaws, creating erosion and potential permanent loss of limited natural resources. She said the Department of Public Works will need to divert staff time from other projects to restore the area, notices will be sent to abutters and municipal liens could be placed if responsible individuals are identified.
Chair Freiman asked residents to report ongoing activity so monitoring can continue; no formal enforcement action was announced at the meeting pending investigation.
