Norfolk introduces newly transferred officer Joseph Burke to the community

A presenter described Burke as a transfer from the Boston Police Department, an academy graduate (December 2014) with experience in several Boston districts and advanced training including radar/lidar certification and SWAT integration.
The presenter noted Officer Burke's record of commendations in Boston, including multiple district-captain commendations and the Thomas Gill Memorial Medal of Honor on May 3, 2026. The presenter said Burke also served in the U.S. Marine Corps and deployed to Afghanistan.
Officer Joseph Burke spoke briefly and introduced his wife, Bailey, and their children Lydia, James and Logan. He told the board he and his family moved to Norfolk in December 2024 and said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve the community where he plans to raise his family.
Board members and residents offered congratulations and thanked Officer Burke for choosing to serve in Norfolk.
