Norfolk Select Board approves licenses, contracts and appointments and moves to executive session

The Norfolk Select Board on June 15 approved a series of routine licenses, contracts and committee appointments and then voted to convene an executive session to discuss a police-unit grievance and personnel negotiations.
In votes taken during the meeting the board reappointed Brian Mushnik to the Tri-County Vocational Committee for a term through June 30, 2029. The board also approved a road-event permit for 3 Squares New England's annual Ride for Food to run through Norfolk on Sept. 27, 2026, and granted a common victualer license to Marimena Inc., d/b/a Maria Ice Cream at 17 Pine Street, Unit 1, subject to receipt of required documentation and payment of fees.
The board accepted the contract with Norfolk Community Television (the Norfolk Cable Corporation), which the corporation had signed in the current version, and voted to authorize the town administrator to sign a county contract for weights-and-measures services for fiscal years 2027 through 2029 after a presentation from Norfolk County staff. William Buckley, assistant director of Norfolk County regional services, described the county program as a flat-rate regional service intended to save towns money and provide inspection capacity.
Board members also approved the appointments and reappointments to town committees listed in Exhibit A of the posted agenda and authorized the town to post vacancies and solicit applicants for committees including conservation and an energy committee.
After completing the open-session business, the board moved and carried a motion to convene an executive session under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30A, 20(a)(3) to discuss strategy with respect to a Norfolk Police bargaining-unit grievance and 20(a)(2) to prepare for negotiations with nonunion personnel (finance director). The board said it would not return to open session at the conclusion of the executive session.
