The Norwich Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved a letter of support April 7 for the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and its partners as they seek funding through the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Program.
Administrator Jamie Fisher told trustees the proposed Heartland Rail Connectivity Initiative would improve regional transportation and economic development through new rail corridors connecting Chicago, Fort Wayne, Columbus and Pittsburgh, and referenced corridor concepts including Cleveland–Columbus–Dayton and Cincinnati (the "3C+D" designation). Fisher said the region has been "lacking such service since 1979" and stressed the township's interest in rail safety and risk reduction as part of its supportive letter.
Trustee Brian Rothenberg moved and Trustee Trish Barker seconded the motion; Chair Kelli Arthur Hykes and the trustees voted yes. The board did not authorize financial participation; the action was a formal letter of support for the planning grant application.
The trustees recorded the vote as unanimous and asked staff to include rail-safety language in the letter. The motion passed 3–0.
