Norwich Township delays columbarium and path projects, outlines veteran marker replacements

Robbie Thomas, cemetery sexton and road superintendent, told the Norwich Township trustees on Feb. 17 that several cemetery capital projects will be deferred to 2027 amid budget planning and maintenance concerns.
Mr. Thomas said the proposed 72-niche columbarium with a patio paver base is estimated at $150,000 and that replacing gold-dust walking paths with concrete or pavers in the cemetery expansion area is estimated at $120,000. He noted ADA concerns with the current paths and asked the board to revisit the items in fall 2026; trustees directed staff to return cost and funding details later in the year.
Thomas also raised the need for a policy on indigent burials (the township had experienced one indigent burial during his tenure) and flagged problems with veteran markers at Wesley Chapel Cemetery that will require replacement due to poor prior installation. He said approximately 14 veteran markers need replacement and that staff plan to notify living relatives before work begins. Trustees asked for additional camera-replacement quotes for the cemetery maintenance building (one quote $3,918.83; a second quote $23,676 was requested to be revisited).
