Belfast council approves police hire, drug-task-force assignment and multiple procurement awards

On procurement, Public Works Director Bob Richards recommended awarding the diesel-fuel contract to Maritime Energy as the lowest bidder and awarding the road-salt contract to New England Salt Company at $66.50 per ton delivered. Councilors unanimously approved awarding those contracts.
Other routine actions approved by unanimous votes included: reappointments and new appointments to the Pedestrian, Transportation and Accessibility Committee and the Harbor Advisory Committee; authorization for city staff to administer a Maine DEP septic replacement grant for a failing system at 36 Smart Road; and removal of one hazardous city street tree at Waldo Avenue and John Street.
