Health director reports on housing enforcement, asbestos complaints, upcoming flu clinics and food assistance

Health Director Caroline Kinsella provided several operational updates at the Jan. 12 Town of Milton Board of Health meeting, covering housing enforcement, nuisance complaints, community clinics and food-assistance efforts.

Kinsella said asbestos remediation has been completed at 68 Smith Road and that roof repairs are under way. She reported that a housing correction order has been issued for 333 Thacher Street and that Town Counsel will bring that case to court for enforcement. Regarding 5–9 Thacher Street, Kinsella said civil engineering drawings are finished, the architect is completing plans and the owners are represented by Richard Joyce; an exterminator report from December has been provided and the architect expects to submit drawings in four to five weeks.

The Board was informed of a nuisance complaint concerning asbestos in basement piping at East Milton Wine and Spirits; the Health Department flagged that matter for follow-up. Two mini seasonal flu clinics are scheduled at the Milton Library on Jan. 13 and Jan. 20 from 1 to 2 p.m., and Chair Roxanne Musto asked that those clinics be advertised in The Milton Times and via an email blast.

Staff also reported that emergency food bags and a "take one, leave one" shelf are being restocked with resident donations and that Anne Grossman is adding donated items to the emergency food bags. The Board is awaiting a complete Food Plan review for 10 Bassett Street (Jillian's restaurant), and a market is expected to open at the Bank of America location at 2 Eliot Street. Chair Musto will sign a Norfolk County Sheriff's MOU for up to $2,500 to support sober-house living; Town Counsel reviewed and updated some MOU language.

The Board scheduled its next meeting for March 2, 2026 and adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
