Thayne ratifies ambulance board, approves fire-department CD withdrawal to help buy new truck

Tonya Taylor presented the Thayne Ambulance Service's officer slate and the council ratified the appointments: Delsa Bird will remain captain, Sherri Merritt as training officer, Shanna Bird as sergeant‑at‑arms, Justin Jenkins as co‑captain for a one‑year term, and Tonya Taylor will continue as secretary for one additional year. The motion to ratify the board was moved by Councilman Heward, seconded by Councilman Schwab, and carried.
Chief Toby Merritt told the council the fire hydrant in front of the firehouse is frozen and asked town maintenance staff (Cliff) to investigate. Merritt also said the department has a certificate of deposit maturing around Dec. 26 and requested using the funds toward purchasing a new fire truck. The council approved withdrawing the CD balance of $94,720.47 (motion by Councilman Woolley, seconded by Councilman Heward).
Merritt presented paperwork from the Department of Revenue indicating the Mid Valley Fire District is officially a district; Marty Halverson, Lance Skinner and Kevin Voyles introduced themselves as district board members and said they are exploring grant options and look forward to working with the town. The council did not record a separate vote on district formation—the district formation paperwork was presented by Merritt as information to the council.
The council's actions authorize the ambulance-board ratification and the CD withdrawal; staff were asked to investigate the frozen hydrant and to continue seeking grants and loans to support apparatus replacement.
