Graze, LLC liquor application denied; mayor urges restaurant license instead

Thayne — The Town Council declined to approve a Bar and Grill liquor license for Graze, LLC at its April 21 meeting after the public hearing produced no motions to grant the application.
Eric Cretal, who said he purchased the former Wagon Wheel Café at 100 Wright Street and plans to open Graze full service by June, told the council he applied for a Bar and Grill license because a restaurant license currently requires a separate dispensing room. Council members noted state liquor‑law changes taking effect July 1, 2021, that would eliminate the dispensing‑room requirement for restaurant licenses.
Mayor Devin Simpson and some councilmembers said they would be more inclined to approve a restaurant license than a bar‑and‑grill license. Council did not make a motion to approve the requested Bar and Grill license; the application was therefore not approved. Mayor Simpson strongly encouraged Cretal to apply for a restaurant license instead and suggested holding the hearing in May if Cretal chose to reapply.
No public comments were received in writing or at the hearing. The council did not record a formal roll‑call vote on the denial; the transcript states only that no motion was made and the application was denied.
