Kelly Frink, Executive Director of the United Way, addressed the council Sept. 16 during a proclamation recognizing National Diaper Need Awareness Week. Frink said one out of two local families struggles to afford diapers and that in 2024 the community distributed more than 72,000 diapers through local diaper banks. She added that pullups are currently the most-needed item.
Frink described the United Way’s fundraising methods, including an annual workplace campaign, grantwriting, diaper drives and direct community donations. “We host diaper drives, and members of the community can donate directly to the office or online,” Frink said. Mayor Max Mickelson proclaimed Sept. 15–21, 2025, National Diaper Need Awareness Week and urged the public to support diaper banks and drives.
The proclamation recognizes local diaper bank volunteers and donors and aims to increase public contributions of supplies and money; no formal funding action was recorded in the meeting minutes.
