Rock Springs council green-lights WYDOT-funded pedestrian upgrades on Foothill Boulevard

The Rock Springs City Council voted Sept. 16 to authorize bidding on the Foothill Boulevard Pedestrian Enhancement Project, which will widen sidewalks and add Americans with Disabilities Act improvements between Reagan Avenue and Sierra Road.
Paul Kauchich, Director of Engineering, Operations and Public Services, told Councilors the bulk of the project is funded through a Wyoming Department of Transportation grant and that the city’s required matching funds were included in the current budget. “The project is for ADA improvements and widening sidewalks from Reagan Avenue to Sierra Road,” Kauchich said. He confirmed the planned work would be made on one side of the street.
Councilor Hickerson asked whether the project had been accounted for in the city’s budget; Kauchich replied the match was budgeted. Councilor Milonas asked whether improvements would be limited to one side; Kauchich confirmed they would. The council approved the request to proceed to bidding on a motion by Councilor Zotti, seconded by Councilor Demas; the motion carried unanimously.
The authorization directs staff to prepare bid documents and proceed with procurement; no construction contract award was recorded in the minutes. The vote means the project will move to the public bidding phase, after which council will consider awarding a contract once bids are returned.
