Kanosh council signs off on Corn Creek Watershed design funds, accepts 3% budget increase

The Kanosh Town Council authorized the town sponsor to sign design documents and approved a requested 3% increase to the Corn Creek Watershed project’s price to cover inflation.

Chair Maya Scribe told the council the overall estimated project is about $33 million, with Corn Creek Irrigation covering a portion of the irrigation work (stated as a 25% share of the irrigation portion and 75% grant funding for that share). The town’s obligations will focus on permits, easements and flood‑mitigation work tied to the town‑owned dam and highline infrastructure.

"So that is what that is the part that is covered part mostly by Corn Creek Irrigation," Scribe said, noting the town remains the project sponsor for permitting and easement work.

After discussion about the town’s long‑term exposure, a councilor moved to "approve design, the funds for design and a 3% increase as requested." The motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.

Council members discussed that the 3% increase reflects inflation since the project’s initial estimate; councilors emphasized that the town’s maximum cost exposure would be a small fraction of the overall budget in current projections. The council directed the chair to sign the design documents to release the design funds and move the project into the next (design) phase.

The approval covers design authorization only; later construction and any additional budget requests will return to the council for approval where required.
