Planning commission recommends approval for proposed childcare center in Atkins

On Oct. 26 the Planning Commission recommended approval of a special-use permit allowing Alan and Tammy Bales to construct and operate a childcare center adjacent to 5773 Lee Highway in Atkins (Tax Map No. 48-A-26).
Zoning Administrator Clegg Williams reviewed notice and zoning provisions relevant to childcare centers and said no phone calls or written correspondence had been received about the application. Tammy Bales presented her business plan and answered commissioners' questions. No neighbors spoke in opposition. Following questions, Commissioner David Spence moved to recommend approval; Commissioner Graham Davidson Jr. seconded and the commission recorded a favorable vote (5 yeas, 2 absent). The recommendation will be transmitted to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
If the Board approves the special-use permit, the applicants will proceed with any required licensing and building-permit steps.
