Across meetings in 2018 the Smyth County Planning Commission approved multiple routine site-development plans and recommended variance requests after staff confirmed regulatory compliance.
January 25, 2018: Zoning Administrator Clegg Williams explained Scotty Blevins’ plan to add a third home on a Marion tract next to 715 Middle Fork Road (Tax Map #54-A-58). Blevins answered Commission questions about separate septic systems, public water and setback compliance. Commissioner Joel Pugh moved to approve the additional dwelling and the motion passed unanimously.
March 22, 2018: A site plan for Jeremy McClure at 136 Sycamore Road in Saltville (Tax Map #41D-2-9) was approved after the health department had already approved placement of a second dwelling; the Commission found each home would have its own septic and meet lot requirements.
Also on March 22 the Commission recommended the Board of Zoning Appeals approve Christopher Galliot’s variance (allowing a 7'4" addition and a deck 32" from the adjoining property line under §3-6.4(b)(1)) and recommended approval of Blessed Hope Baptist Church’s variance from front lot setback minimum (§3-2.4(a)(1)). The recommendations were passed by recorded vote.
These approvals were recorded in the Commission’s minutes and the staff files contain the site plans, health-department approvals where applicable, and variance applications forwarded to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
