Planning commission backs rezoning at 2790 Lee Highway for ministorage expansion

At a joint public hearing on Aug. 23, 2018, owners Cregger & Taylor asked the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission to amend the official Zoning Map to rezone about 3.2 acres at 2790 Lee Highway in Marion (Tax Map Nos. 56F-1-33/34/35) from Agricultural/Rural to Commercial to permit expansion of a ministorage operation.
Zoning Administrator Clegg Williams reviewed the applicable ordinance sections (§3-2 and §3-4) and confirmed notice had been published and adjoining owners mailed; he also noted the 2013 Comprehensive Plan labels the tract Commercial/Industrial. Mr. Taylor, representing the owners, described the proposed expansion (two new 3,000-square-foot buildings). No members of the public spoke against the rezoning during the hearing. Commissioner Joel Pugh moved to recommend approval; Commissioner David Spence seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The Commission forwarded the recommendation to the Board of Supervisors for final action, and the hearing record (application and maps) is available in the county administrator’s office.
